I feel privileged to be the first to write a review of this necklace here. This is my first purchase from HG and my first encounter with keshi pearls. I did a bit of reading on these pearls, and learnt that 'keshi' is a Japanese word that means 'poppy', and that keshi pearls are not nucleated, so each pearl is made up of solid nacre, and that is why they are so lustrous.
It took a while for this strand to catch my eye because I am new to pearls and tend to look out just for the traditional round ones. I'm very glad that it eventually did, because it really does stand out in terms of shape, quality and length. The pearls are even chunkier than I'd expected from the photos; at the risk of sounding silly, I'd say that their size and shape kinda resemble adult teeth. They have been selected with care, for they are very nicely matched in colour and size, with practically no scuffs or dull spots. They have also been drilled and strung skilfully, with the pearls lying on this and that side of the cord in an aesthetically pleasing manner. The length will not allow doubling, but looks good as a single strand hanging down to the level of the sternum, especially as it is weighty enough to hang well.
Because of its lustre, this necklace looks almost blinding against dark clothing. It does a brilliant job of dressing up these outfits, and I like to think that it looks feminine and sophisticated.
It also comes in a little velvety pouch packed in a be-ribboned box, accompanied by a handwritten note of thanks which is a sweet touch. I'm very glad I bought this necklace and look forward to owning more HG pearls.
